THE WASHINGTON SCHOOL OF PHOTOGRAPHY

I have been a instructor at the Washington School of Photography (WSP) since 1981, and since then have been deeply involved in it's organization in a variety of ways. The School was founded in 1976 by professional photographers, in order to provide quality photographic education in the Washington/Baltimore Metropolitan area. Since that time, the School has graduated over 1000 photographers and has grown to be respected by both amateurs and professional alike.

WSP offers a Certificate in Professional Photography that is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. In addition, WSP offers numerous photography workshops and special topics classes designed as a complete learning program. The workshops and special topics classes are intended to be either vocational or avocational. Any photographer - from amateur to working professional - can take any of the classes in order to enhance their skills and expertise.

The School is staffed entirely by working professional photographers, and emphasizes learning by doing. Participants practice all aspects of their technique under the direct guidance and close supervision of their instructors. We have a completely equipped professional photography studio that can be used for all types of photography.

The professional student will learn the techniques involved with the use of 35mm DSLRs and large format cameras, studio lighting and lighting equipment, and the many tools used in lighting control. In addition, the student will learn composition and aesthetics of the photographic image, and how to apply these to their particular photographic interests. They will also learn to use Photoshop and Lightroom to improve and finish their images, and the business aspects that will make them a successful professional photographer. If you are interested in learning more about the Washington School of Photography and its programs, you can email the school Director, Andarge Asfaw, at Andarge@fstopstudio.com., or me, Don Becker, at don@donbeckerphoto.com.

In addition to the information above, I have included a number of photographs below which were taken of/at the School during classes or workshops, or which illustrate some of the techniques taught at the WSP.

I hope that you have enjoyed visiting the website of the Washington School of Photography. The school is coming out of a very difficult time, but we are still here and are still providing the exceptional photographic knowledge that we have been providing for all of the past 40 years. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at don@donbeckerphoto.com.
